The Many Reasons to Retreat to Your Tub

by Laura Lamun

Heard enough political ads yet? Mistakenly answered enough campaign phone calls, and collected enough junk mail to paper the globe several times? The barrage of political stimulation is reaching a fevered pitch, and if you’ve gone beyond the saturation point –

I say close the door, run yourself a bath, and ESCAPE it all for awhile!

But then again, I believe that every problem can be solved with a good, hot bath. The funny thing is, I have dedicated a good part of my life to making sure that this is so – and I have the bathing experience and the science to prove it! Here are my favorite reasons for reacquainting yourself with the age-old practice of release and rejuvenation that comes from the depths of your tub.

Ward Off Colds and Flu

The psychological effect of Flu shots being in low supply, and the change in the weather, are provoking many people’s immune systems to run a “systems check” – that early season bug that catches you unaware and knocks you over. At the very first signs of distress – ache-y body, sore throat, excess fatigue – take extra Vitamin C, spicy herbs and foods, and get into a hot ginger bath like our Letting Go.  Soaking in a great detoxifier and body-core stimulant like ginger, with immune-strengthening minerals, can relieve a toxic burden and prevent a bug from taking hold. The healing heat that radiates from your body after this bath is compounded by a fast trip under the covers, for the best night’s sleep of your life. Waking up feeling better is all the proof you’ll need.

Sporting Uses

In training for winter, athletes and weekend warriors alike are readying their bodies for the onslaught of physical demand. Every body requires trace and vital minerals to complete every action we ask of it – from electrical neural stimulation of the muscles, to the recovery from an intensely physical day. Without the proper minerals from depleted soils and over-processed foods, most everyone is left mineral-poor, and hurting because of it. A mineralizing bath, or soak in the Hot Springs, not only helps move blood, lymph, and lactic acid through the body to reduce cramping, stiffness and pain, but also provides essential building block minerals for better performance. Admit it or not, a great mineral bath makes a better athlete.

Stress-Relief

While this may seem obvious, many people forget that the bathtub is a near-perfect place to let stress die! Scientists have now proven that INTENTION affects OUTCOME. Going to the tub with an intention to relieve yourself of the day, restore yourself for more, and revive your body, will do just that. Your thoughts actually charge the water, and if you use any of my products, more positivity is charged into the bath salts with every word on the label. Each one is programmed for success, action and intention. The right kind of bath can even restore enough vital energy to the body, that it has the extra energy required to have sex, and enjoy it, too! That’s a result we can all cheer for.

Resolving Skin Issues

Rashes, eczema, chicken pox, hives, even hemorrhoids and sports-chafing can all be comforted with a good oatmeal bath. Bathing gives the skin a head start as the body’s greatest excretory organ, and enhances its ability to slough-off toxins and dead cells. It also allows healing agents and anti-inflammatories to contact the skin where they are most needed. And if you don’t want to go out and buy one we make, get yourself some bulk organic oats and grind them in your blender. You’ve just made your own inexpensive, colloidal oatmeal powder for a bath that will soothe and comfort itchy, inflamed skin, AND prove beneficial to the nerves. Relieving nervous stress and tension stimulates healing for all kinds of skin conditions.

And if these reasons aren’t enough for you  - how about the pure fact that a perfect, long bath feels so good! If you are NOT a bath person or don’t have a tub, I remind you that bath salts in footbaths work their own miracles; essential oils and minerals penetrate the skin of the feet exceptionally well, and can provoke full-body results with low fuss.

So unplug from the political machine, treat yourself to an adventurous soak, a dip in the Springs, or a big kitchen pan to soak your feet in. You can take great comfort in the fact that you are giving your body the royal treatment – and the nourishment - it deserves.
